220 drug suspects arrested as NDLEA destroys 14 cannabis farms in Edo

The Edo State commander of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Mr Callys Alumona, has said the agency arrested 220 suspects over drug-related offices between February and June, 2024.
He also disclosed that 14 cannabis farms measuring a total of 18.5 hectares and approximately 46,251.433kg were destroyed within the period.
Alumona, who disclosed this during the International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, said 148 of the suspects were males, while 72 were females.
“Four drug barons have been on the watch list of the agency; two have been arrested and prosecuted while the remaining two are being tracked,” he added.

He further disclosed that a total of 1,676,994 kilograms of hard drug, including 3,558 bottles of codeine-based syrup amounting to 3,558 litres were seized within the period.
He further said that as part of the rehabilitation and counselling programme of the agency, 154 suspected drug addicts were counseled, adding that eight of them were indoor clients.
