24,148 UTME candidates enroll in higher institutions

The Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), Professor Is-haq Oloyede yesterday said about 24,148 matriculants have gained admission into various higher institutions for the 2018/19 academic session.

I would be recalled that about 1.6 million candidates were said to have written the 2018 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).

The registrar made remarks shortly after supervising promotion test by 700 JAMB officials in Abuja. He said 24,148 candidates have so far been offered admission into higher institutions and that only 850,135 candidates out of the total candidate s that wrote 2018 UTME obtained the required credits in five O’ level subjects.

 He said the board has been conducting Third Party Exams and had procured a new Test Management Software that would build specific number of questions at a time.   

He said, “We do Third Party Exam. The last one exam we conducted was for police recruit by Police Service Commission. The software we are using has some inbuilt style that must carry 180 questions and you can tell candidates to answer questions one to twenty and avoid other questions below. But some mischievous people went to see questions below. We felt, we must go and spend money to create a new vehicle that is flexible, so that if the exam is to be 120 questions, you prepare 120 questions only.”
