One day after a kerosene tanker exploded at a market in Kubwa, Abuja, the product has triggered explosion at the University of Maiduguri in Borno State.
At least three female occupants of Murtala female hostel in the school are currently being treated in the hospital following injuries sustained in the fire outbreak, which occurred on Saturday.
This is the second of such incident at UNIMAID in one month.
According to the university’s Director, Public Relations, Prof. Danjuma Gambo, said preliminary investigations showed that the incident was caused by a kerosene explosion.
Gambo, who described the incident as unfortunate, said the university management was taking steps to enforce more fire safety regulations in students’ hostels.
About seven persons died in the Abuja incident while properties were razed.
