The police in Kano State have arrested one Abdulkareem Ali (24) of Gyadi Gyadi Quarters in Tarauni Local Government Area for cutting off his childhood friend’s hand.

The victim, Sadiq Hamisu, while narrating his ordeal, said they were once friends with the suspect before they parted ways after he gained admission to study in a higher institution.

He said some time ago there was a marriage party in their community and an MP3 went missing and his friend, Ali, was accused of stealing it, which he (Sadiq) later settled and paid the owners N4,500 for peace to reign.

He said after the incident Ali kept addressing him as a friend of thieves which he warned him to stop repeatedly but he did not.

He explained that, “On the fateful day, he repeated the verbal insults by calling me a friend of thieves and we fought and he used a sword to stab me on my hand, which led to the amputation of the hand.”

The suspect who confessed to the crime, said he regretted his action, explaining that during the quarrel between him and the victim, he opted to use the sword in self-defence.

He said, “I regret my action. Anytime I look at what I did to Sadiq, I feel bad. I can’t sleep and I am begging for forgiveness.”

The spokesman of the Kano State Police Command, DSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, confirmed that the suspect was arrested for the act and that the case was at the State Criminal Investigation Department (CID).
