The Federal Capital Territory Administration has said no fewer than 24,714 people were affected by floods in some parts of the territory in 2022.

The FCT Emergency Management Agency, in a report at the weekend, disclosed that the flood, which affected three area councils out of the six, also displaced 3,695 people, with 131 property damaged.

In the report, released to journalists, the Director General  FEMA, Abbas Idriss, said in Abuja Municipal Area Council, 20,376 people were affected, 2,058 in Bwari Area Council while Abaji Area Council recorded 2,280 cases.

It also accounted for 2,972 people displaced in AMAC and 102 houses damaged, while a total of 9,813 lives were saved.

In Bwari Area Council, 343 households were displaced, six houses were damaged, and 41 lives were saved. No life was lost during the floods.

According to the report, 380 were displaced in Abaji Area Council, 23 houses damaged with 272 lives were saved.

“In AMAC, 6,876 people were affected in the first flood at Ebano Hudu Road by Damagaza River; Efab Estate Lokogoma, Apo-Dutsen Expressway; Carters Court Apo and Trademoore Estate, Lugbe.

“The second one affected 4,368 persons in Lokogoma Carters Court Apo, Efab Estate, and Nnamdi Azikiwe expressway by Lugbe.

“Third one, affected 3,060 at Nyanya Phase 4. 3,528 in Nyanya Phase 4, by Redeemed Church with 2,544 at Ipent 5 road, Lokogoma.

“In Bwari Area Council, the flood affected 2,058 persons at Dutsen Makaranta by Police signpost; while in Abaji Area Council 2,280 persons were affected at abattoir behind Sarkin Pawa.”

The report also revealed that 15 incidents of road crashes were recorded but resolved in conjunction with relevant agencies.

“We responded to 15 incidents of road crashes, 10 fire incidents with a building collapse in Kubwa, where five persons were rescued with two fatally injured. No life was lost.” he said.
