Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC) says it has secured a total of 25 convictions against vandals and energy thieves in its network area in the last three years.
The electricity firm’s Head of Corporate Communications, Mrs Angela Olanrewaju, said within the last few days, seven people bagged various jail terms for destroying and carting away facilities belonging to the company.
She said Samuel Samson and Mayowa Adeboye were arraigned before a magistrate court in Abeokuta, Ogun State, for vandalism and cable theft and jailed for two and a half years, while Femi Adewale was arraigned before the same court and sentenced to four years imprisonment.
“Gbolahan Ogunjobi was arraigned before a magistrate court II, Ota, Ogun State and got three years imprisonment for unlawful damage and theft of a transformer.
“Ayeni Kayode got six months sentence for impersonating an IBEDC staff in Ogbomoso, Oyo State.
“Ageniga Ayobami and Ganiyu Alao, also got six and three months jail terms respectively for stealing pre-paid meters and reckless driving which caused damage to a high-tension pole,” she said.
