The Yobe State Police Command has expressed grave concern over t0he recent increase in cases of Gender-Based Violence (GBV), particularly rape and child abuse, reported across several of its divisional headquarters in the state.

The command noted that from September 2025 to date, it has recorded a total of 25 cases of rape, mostly involving minors below the age of nine.

According to the command’s Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Dungus Abdulkarim, a total of 28 suspects have been arrested. 

He said 10 cases are currently undergoing prosecution in the courts, while investigations continue on the others at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID).

While detailing recent arrests, he said detectives from the Jakusko division apprehended one Rabilu Sani (20) of Jadam village, Jakusko, for luring a 4-year-old girl into a room and sexually assaulting her.

According to him, a medical examination confirmed severe injuries, adding that investigation also revealed the suspect is HIV positive. 

He said that the case has been transferred to the SCID for discreet and thorough investigation and will be charged in court upon conclusion.

At the Fika division, he said one Yusuf Garba (23), a grinding machine operator at Dumbulwa village, lured a 5-year-old girl into his shop and assaulted her. 

The victim was immediately taken to the hospital, while the suspect remains in SCID custody for prosecution.

He added that operatives from the Tarmuwa division received a distress call that a 16-year-old girl was attacked on her way back from a Maulud celebration in Babban Gida.

 He said the operatives tracked and arrested the suspects, one Audu Ado (22) and Babangida Alhaji Dawaye, both of Galadimawa village.

According to him, the suspects confessed to threatening the victim with harmful objects, adding that the victim is receiving medical care, and the suspects are under investigation at the SCID for prosecution.
