As the Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) marks its 25th anniversary, the organisation has restated its commitment to the unity, peace, and development of Northern Nigeria.

Addressing newsmen on Wednesday, the Chairman of the ACF Board of Trustees (BOT), Alhaji Bashir Dalhatu, said the milestone offers both “a moment of celebration and deep reflection” on the forum’s role in championing Northern interests since its establishment in 2000.

Dalhatu paid tribute to the organisation’s founding fathers, describing them as visionaries whose work laid the foundation for ACF’s enduring relevance.

The BOT chairman noted that ACF has remained steadfast in pushing for reforms that address insecurity, economic stagnation and governance concerns in the North.

To commemorate its 25th anniversary, the ACF unveiled a three-day programme designed to celebrate its history, honour distinguished contributors, and stimulate meaningful dialogue on the region’s future.

He said the events opened with sporting activities aimed at engaging both the elite and the youth.

The anniversary’s first official day will feature two major roundtable discussions. The session on “Tourism for Security,” to be chaired by Yobe State Governor Mai Mala Buni, to showcases the region’s potential for economic diversification.

Dalhatu noted that the initiative is “meant to showcase the rich tourism sector of the North, utilise it to attract investment and also aid in tackling insecurity.”

A second roundtable will focus on amplifying women and youth voices in Northern Nigeria’s transformation, featuring local and international experts under the chairmanship of UN Deputy Secretary-General Dr. Amina Mohammed.

Other activities include a mentorship programme on agriculture, ICT and manufacturing, and a three-day free medical outreach organised by the General T.Y. Buratai Humanity Care Foundation in collaboration with the Tuku & Tukur Foundation, aimed at providing “essential health services to participants and neighbouring community.

Reaffirming ACF’s mission, Dalhatu declared: “As we reach this momentous milestone, we reaffirm our commitment to the Forum’s core values, striving for a prosperous, peaceful, and united Northern Nigeria.”

He urged stakeholders and citizens to continue working with the forum as it charts the next phase of its advocacy. “We invite you to join us as we celebrate our achievements and reflect on the challenges ahead.”
