The Commissioner for Agriculture and Natural Resources Barrister Kayode Towoju said the training would help the youth to grow in agriculture business and enhance food productivity in the state.
Represented by the Director of Engineering and Services, Engineer Oyedele Abifarin, Towoju said: “We have come together to give you empowerment so that you don’t go looking for white collar jobs. If you do it well, you can buy more and eventually be an employer yourself and even a consultant.”
He said that Kwara State, known as an agriculture hub in Nigeria, would bequeath a worthwhile legacy to successive generation of farmers in the state.
While imploring them to take advantage of the rare opportunity provided by the training, he cautioned them to read instructions properly when dealing with any chemical used in spraying.
Also speaking, the State Director, Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, Mr. Adebisi Buhari, called on youth to use the opportunity provided by agro-chemical knapsack sprayer to form spraying gang in order to help farmers in tackling weeds.
He said: “We expect that when they get back to their locality, they will form gangs, may be about three or four of them would come together, any time they find job, they go together to do the spraying. By that, they are partially engaged and they can also use it on their farm and we are giving them the sprayer free after the training”.
