The First Lady, Chief (Mrs) Olufunke Daniel, said at the M. K. O. Abiola International Stadium at the celebration of the Children’s Day in the state, that the de-worming exercise cuts across all children from the 20 council areas that stormed the venue for the Children’s Day rally.

The special medical stand of the Foundation had a large turnout of the children, mostly in their school uniforms as the officials attended to them, while having their data recorded. Also, prizes were given to the best essay writers on the theme of this years’ celebration, while special prizes were given to children born between 2003 and 2009 as baby of the year.

The state governor who took salute of children from various schools in a march past, read the address of the President, Dr Goodluck Jonathan.

In a related development, National Association of Private Schools (NAPPS) organised a different children rally, an indication that all was not well following the rift between the government and the association over alleged excess tax and levies.

The rallies which were organized in all the 20 local governments in the state, also recorded impressive turnouts of children from various private schools. At Abeokuta South Local Government, Methodist Nursery and Primary School ground, Adatan, Abeokuta was used, with about 20 private schools participating.

The chairman of the council ‘chapter, Julius Feyi-James (Soyode), said that the association was not in conflict with the government, stressing that, “this will not be the first time having such a different Children’s Day celebration. This will be the third time. In fact, we sent representatives to the government’s rally.”
