The registrar, National Business and Technical Examinations Board (NABTEB), Benin, Professor Ifeoma Isiugo-Abanihe, has said 29,274 candidates scored five credits and above including English Language and mathematics in the 2018 school certificate examination, representing 72.79 percent.

She said a total number of 45,307 students sat for the examination in 1,773 centers across the country.

Prof. Isiugo-Abanihe stated this in Benin while announcing the release of the result of the 2018 National Business Certificate/National Technical Certificate Examination (NBC/NTC).

She said 36,867 candidates scored five credits and above with or without English Language and mathematics, representing 91.67 percent.

She noted that there was improvement in students’ exam performance over the  2017 November/December results, in which 21,159 candidates representing 52.74 percent scored five credits and above, including mathematics and English Language, while 31,369 candidates representing 78.19 percent scored five credits and above with or without English Language and mathematics.

“Though the board has made progress, it was still far below expectation considering the nation’s quest for rapid technological development and the significant role of Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) in Nigeria,” she also said.

The registrar explained that out of the total number of candidates that wrote the examination, 625 were involved in examination malpractices, and that some centres have been cancelled as a result of sharp practices.
