The championship which will last till January 27 will see African champions, Ephraim Jinkam Bulus and Susan Ideh winners of the singles event at the last edition battling to retain their titles.

The arrival and registration of participants which started on Friday ended yesterday with officials of the Badminton Federation of Nigeria putting finishing touches to the renovated hall which will the matches.

Speaking to Trustsports, the chief coach of badminton in the FCT, Mohammed Bako said his players are ready to dominate the championship as he said they cannot fold their hands and watch others take away all the trophies.

The coach noted that FCT is a force to reckon with in badminton and the players who have been drilled and put in top shape for the competition will give a good account of themselves.

Bako said his team has been in camp for several weeks to prepare for the championship and cannot wait to get into the courts to do battle for laurels.

“It is an open secret that FCT is a force to reckon with in badminton. We have been consistent in contributing players to the national teams and I don’t see us not doing well in this championship. We have got quality players who are ready to do the FCT proud.

“The team has been in camp in readiness for this tournament. We are the host and I don’t think we would fold our hands and watch other people take away the medals.

“We are going to face stiff opposition from other states but we are not bothered. FCT is not new to such competition.”

His assistant, Jones Adokole collaborated with him as he said Team FCT is ready to take the championship by storm.

“We are not only to host well but we hope to host and win fairly”, he stated.
