Three suspects have been arrested for allegedly stealing a trailer fully loaded with cement near Gawu in Abaji Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

Abuja Metro gathered that the incident occurred in a community bordering Gawu Babangida in Niger State.

A security source, who spoke on condition of anonymity, told our reporter via telephone on Monday that the trailer was stolen last week after the driver parked by the roadside to eat at a nearby restaurant.

The trailer, with registration number HJA 995 XA, was conveying 900 bags of cement from Okpella in Edo State to a customer in Gwagwalada when the suspects made away with the vehicle.

“The driver of the trailer reached Gwagwalada at about 6pm, parked by the roadside and went to eat at a restaurant when the suspects drove the trailer away,” the source said.

Upon discovering that the truck was missing, the driver immediately notified his company’s manager, who in turn alerted the police.

According to the source, the truck was tracked to a location along the Lambata-Lapai Road in Niger State, after the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Gawu Babangida division was informed of the incident.

He said, “The DPO of Gawu-Babangida division mobilized his team to Lambata-LapaiRoad where the truck was recovered with the 900 bags of cement.”

He added that three suspects were found inside the truck and were promptly arrested. “They all confessed to having stolen the trailer from Gwagwalada in the FCT,” he said.

Spokesperson of the Niger State Police Command, SP Wasiu Abiodun, confirmed the incident and the arrests.

He identified the suspects as Bashir Isah, Ibrahim Yusuf, and Halidu Mohammed, all from the Gbamita area of Lambata.

According to him, the suspects intended to sell the cement to another buyer.
