Joint security operatives have arrested three suspects for allegedly vandalising an NNPC oil pipeline around Gwomani community in Kwali Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

The FCT Commissioner of Police, CP Ahmed Mohammed Sanusi, who disclosed this to journalists during a visit to the scene, identified the suspects as Isah Umar, Aruwa Pai and Sunday Nuhu.

He said the suspects were arrested in the early hours of Monday during a joint patrol involving the Army, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), police, vigilantes and hunters.

According to him, the arrests followed intensive patrols and intelligence gathering by the joint security team. He added that the suspects siphoned petroleum products after vandalising the underground pipeline.

“Even though the suspects were able to evacuate some oil after vandalising the pipeline, we are going to trace and ensure that we recover it and also identify those who received it,” he said.

Sanusi said the joint security operatives would continue to intensify patrols and monitor the pipeline against vandalism.

He added that the command would sustain collaboration with other security agencies to protect public assets and tackle other forms of crime across the FCT.

The police commissioner said the suspects, as well as those who received the stolen products, would be prosecuted.
