3 bandits, hunter killed in gun duel with troops in Kaduna

Three bandits and a hunter have been reportedly killed during a fierce gun duel with troops at Kurmin-Kare community in Kachia LGA of Kaduna State.

A security source, who was part of the operation, said the incident happened on Monday around 5.12pm at Nariyo forest in the area.

He said the troops encountered the bandits after they had rustled some cows at a Fulani settlement and engaged them in a gun duel.

He said the fierce gun battle resulted in the death of three bandits and a hunter, who led the troops to Nariyo forest, where the rustled cows were kept.

“One of the local hunters led the troops to where the rustled cows were kept at Nariyo forest. The bandits, upon sighting the troops, immediately opened fire and the troops also engaged them and killed three of them, but unfortunately, the hunter, who led the troops, lost his life during the crossfire with the bandits and the rustled cows were retrieved.”

A community leader from the area, who spoke with our reporter by telephone on Tuesday, also confirmed the incident, saying the local hunter, who was from Kurmin-Kare community, lost his life during the crossfire.

“The hunter’s corpse was later evacuated by the troops and taken to Kurmin-Kare community, where he was buried,” he said.

The spokesman of the Kaduna State Police Command, ASP Hassan Mansur, could not be reached on phone regarding the incident.
