The police in Katsina State have arrested three suspected car thieves and gunned down two suspected armed robbers in a separate incidence

The suspected car thieves, Abdullahi Lawal, Hayatu Bashir and Nura Rabiu, were arrested when police patrol team attached to the Sabon Gari Division, Katsina, chased two suspected motor vehicles along Sabon Titin Kwado to Masallacin Dillalai area, Katsina, the command’s spokesperson, DSP Gambo Isah, said.

“On reaching a point, the occupants abandoned the vehicles in the frontage of a house rented by one of the suspects and took to their heels,” he said.

Isah said two suspected stolen motor vehicles had been recovered and one of the vehicles had been identified by the owner.

He said on February 20, the ring leader of the syndicate, Surajo Usman, was apprehended and during a search conducted in his house, 26 bunches of keys and 15 sharpened vehicle keys were recovered, alongside three fabricated keys.

It was further gathered that the robbers gunned down by the police had stormed Tandama Village in Danja Local Government Area of the state to kidnap two people before a distress call was made to the police. Isah said when the police arrived at the scene, the hoodlums engaged them in a gun duel and in the process two of the armed robbers were gunned down and died on the spot. He said the police also recovered one AK 47 with two magazines containing 10 rounds of live ammunition.
