3 docked for allegedly stealing IKEDC’s transformer

The police on Tuesday arraigned three men before an Ikorodu Magistrates’ Court in Lagos State over alleged theft of a transformer belonging to the Ikeja Electricity Distribution Company (IKEDC).

The defendants: Tahiru Sanni, 20; Ibrahim Amisu, 20 and Abubakar Jafar, 19, whose addresses were not provided, are facing a nine-count charge bordering on conspiracy, felony to wit stealing.

The defendants, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The prosecutor, SP Gbemileke Agoi, told the court that the defendants committed the offences on April 3, at 5p.m. at No.24, Kajola St., Rolu Community in Maya area of Ikorodu.

Agoi said that the defendants vandalised a transformer belonging to IKEDC Plc., mounted at a spot within Mohammed Ajayi |Close.

He told the court that the trio also attempted to commit suicide as they tampered with a live transformer but they escaped arrest.

Agoi said that the offences contravened Sections 412, 340, 235 and 106 (b) of Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015 (Revised).

The magistrate, Mrs A.R. Onilogbo, admitted the defendants to bail in the sum of N200,000 each with two responsible sureties in like sum .

She adjourned the case until June 6 for mention. (NAN)
