Three kids from the Wassa Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) camp are presently undergoing treatment at the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the Abuja National Hospital after suffering severe burns in a fire accident at their camp.

The kids who suffered third degree burns were rushed to the hospital after their room at the IDPs camp was engulfed in fire last Sunday evening.

The chairman of IDPs in Abuja, Ibrahim Adama, said the fire was caused by a leaking electricity generator.

“The fuel leaked into the room and caused fire,” he said. “The fire affected six persons including the father of the children but two of them have been discharged.”

The Director of Clinical Services at the Abuja National Hospital, Dr Olawunmi Oluwole said the children have major burns and meant a lot of efforts both in terms of consumables, dressing, drugs and human attentions to make them overcome their present predicament.

“The fire affected their limbs, lower limbs and torsos. One of them has burns on the face.”

The Federal Commissioner of National Commission for Refugees, Migrants and Internally Displaced Persons (NCFRMI), Sadiya Umar Farouq who visited the victims at the hospital said “what I have seen was very traumatic.”
