Three men and two firms have been arraigned before a federal high court in Lagos for unlawfully importing 440 pump action rifles and unassembled firearm parts last May.

Chihozie Uzochukwu, Mordi Innocent Chukwurah, Ifeanyi Igwewena- two companies; Hizec Marine Services LTD and Patfimo Marine Services LTD, were arraigned in a seven count charge of unlawful importation, forgery and conspiracy.

The arms were imported using forged documents, the court heard.

All defendants pleaded not guilty and argued bail.

However, Justice Ibrahim Aikawa, the presiding judge, adjourned he matter to March 14 and 15 for commencement of trial and ruling on the bail applications.

The defendants are to be remanded in prison custody.
