Three persons sustained serious injuries on Tuesday after a MACK flatbed truck reportedly suffered brake failure and crashed into multiple vehicles along the LASU–Isheri Road at Iyana School, in Igando, Lagos.
The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), in a statement issued by its Director of Public Affairs and Enlightenment Department, Adebayo Taofiq, said the truck lost control after a brake failure and rammed into a Toyota Sienna and two commercial tricycles, resulting in a major multi-vehicle collision.
According to him, LASTMA officers on routine traffic patrol responded immediately by activating the agency’s emergency response protocol, rescuing trapped victims, preventing secondary crashes and managing traffic around the accident scene.
He disclosed that three occupants, one male and two females, sustained varying degrees of severe fractures.

“They were rescued from the wreckage through the coordinated efforts of LASTMA officials and other emergency responders before being taken to El-Shaddai Hospital for specialised medical treatment,” he added.
Taofiq further explained that LASTMA officials worked closely with officers of the Iba Police Division to evacuate the damaged vehicles and clear the accident scene, ensuring the swift restoration of normal traffic flow along the busy corridor.
“The vehicles involved in the crash were identified as a MACK flatbed truck, a Toyota vehicle with registration number FGC 80 XE, and a TVS commercial tricycle with registration number LSR 604 QP,” he said.
Commending the professionalism and prompt response of the agency’s personnel, LASTMA General Manager, Olalekan Bakare-Oki, urged motorists, particularly operators of articulated and heavy-duty vehicles, to carry out comprehensive mechanical inspections before embarking on journeys, with special attention to the condition of their braking systems.
He stressed that routine preventive maintenance of critical vehicle components is essential to reducing avoidable road crashes and improving road safety across Lagos State.
Bakare-Oki also advised motorists to comply with traffic regulations and promptly report road emergencies through LASTMA’s toll-free emergency short code, 3367, to enable swift intervention by the agency’s emergency response teams.
