A clash between farmers and herders in Kalai village, near Baranda forest in Jigawa State, has left three people injured and six others rescued.

According to the police public relations officer, Jigawa State command, DSP Shiisu Adam, the incident occurred on June 25, 2024 when herdsmen attacked farmers and released their cattle onto their farmland, leading to a confrontation.

He said the police responded swiftly to the scene, and during the intervention, three injured victims were identified while six others were rescued from potential harm. The injured victims received medical attention and were discharged.

He added that the police had identified two leaders of the herders and would invite them for questioning. He also said an emergency security meeting with relevant stakeholders had been scheduled to address the issue and prevent further breach of peace.

The clash is believed to have been sparked by misinformation regarding the revocation of farmland allocations within the forest reserve.
