Niger state police command said its personnel attached to Lapai Division in a joint operation with vigilante operatives have killed three kidnappers in a gun shootout.
The kidnappers were engaged in a gun battle following receipt of credible information by the police that the gunmen had kidnapped three persons at different locations to unknown destination.
The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Wasiu Abiodun said the Police Operatives attached to Lapai Division with local vigilantes mobilized and trailed the hoodlums to a forest near Fapo village via Lapai local government where they were engaged in a fierce gun battle.
He said, “As a result, three suspected kidnappers were gunned down, two AK47 rifles and one locally fabricated AK47 rifle were recovered, while other members of the syndicate escaped with gunshot injuries and the three victims were rescued unhurt.
Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police Niger State Command CP Adamu Usman has called on members of the public to remain calm, saying the command will continue the onslaught against the hoodlums in the State.
He urged Nigerlites to report anyone with bullet wounds, or suspicious behavior to the nearest police division.
