3 killed as soldiers repel bandits in Benue LG

At least four people were killed in a gun battle between soldiers of Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS) and bandits suspected to be loyalists of the slain criminal kingpin Terwase Akwaza popularly known as ‘Gana’ at Abaji in the Shitile axis of Katsina Ala Local Government Area of Benue State.
Our correspondent gathered that 13 people also sustained gunshot wounds during the incident which happened on Wednesday evening in the troubled local government area.
Chairman of Kastina Ala LGA, Alfred Atera, confirmed the killing of three persons and 13 others who sustained injuries during the attack which occurred on Abaji market day.
Atera said the soldiers of OPWS saved the day as they quickly intervened and repelled the attackers, killing two of them, and recovering weapons from those that fled.
Force Commander of OPWS, Major General Adeyemi Yekini, however, declined comment on the matter.
But, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Catherine Anene, confirmed the death of one person.
