Three persons were shot dead on Sunday during a renewed cult clash in the Igbogene axis of Yenagoa, the Bayelsa State capital.

Daily Trust gathered that two rival cult groups, the Greenlanders and the Bobos, are currently fighting for control of the area. This latest violence follows an incident just two weeks ago where a 30-year-old man, identified simply as Ebi, was beheaded by suspected members of the Bobos group in the Yenegue axis of the city.

Ebi was reportedly a member of the Greenlanders, a killing that has since escalated clashes across various communities in Yenagoa.

Reports indicate that these ongoing hostilities have claimed at least six lives in recent weeks.

Residents of Igbogene told Daily Trust that the Sunday clash, which erupted in the early hours of the morning, threw the community into a panic as gunshots rang out in various areas.

Many residents reportedly fled their homes for safety, and business activities were abruptly halted.

While the identities of the victims remain sketchy, several other young persons reportedly sustained severe injuries during the encounter.

A resident, speaking on condition of anonymity, described the incident as a continuation of the disturbing cult-related violence plaguing the state. Community leaders are reportedly making efforts to appeal for calm, urging youths to shun violence and embrace peace.

Meanwhile, residents have called on the state government and security agencies to take proactive measures to prevent further bloodshed.

The Police Public Relations Officer in Bayelsa State, DSP Musa Muhammad, confirmed the clash, stating that an investigation has commenced and efforts are underway to track down and arrest the fleeing suspects.
