According to eye witnesses, the truck might have developed mechanical fault while the driver, possibly because of the torrential rain in the early hours of the day, abandoned the truck along the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) corridors on Ojota Bridge just by the New Garage, but without warning to notify oncoming vehicles about the obstruction.

A witness, Folorunsho Aliu who speaks to Oodua Trust explained that the three vehicles were approaching Ojota from Maryland on the Ikorodu Road with high speed and ran unto the stationary truck one after the other from the rear.

According to him, the accident caused heavy vehicular movement on that stretch of the road, until officials of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) brought the situation under control.

At the time of filing this report, the other vehicles involved in the accident had been towed away but the truck was still parked few metres away from the site of the incident on the BRT corridors.

It was learnt that those injured were have been taken away to the Lagos State General Hospital for medical attention.

A close observation of the truck was in terrible shape, with the front wind shield out of place. The driver and the truck assistants were said to have taken to their heels as soon as the accident happened.

Effort to get Lagos Police Command spokesman Mr. Frank Mba to comment on the accident did not yield desired result as his mobile phone was switched off.
