A joint security team comprising the Nigeria Police Force, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), and the Vigilante Group has apprehended eight people suspected of belonging to a secret society and engaging in illicit drug trafficking at Kogi State Polytechnic, Lokoja.

The arrests were made on Tuesday following a tip-off, within the campus premises.

According to Uredo Omale, Director of Public Relations and Protocol at the institution, three of the apprehended suspects are students enrolled in HND II in the Department of Business Administration.

They are identified as Ajayi Oluwaseun Oladipo (Matric No.2022/HND/BUS/275), Isenre Elijah Ayomide (Matric No.2022/HND/BUS/146), and Omonijo Sunday (Matric. No2022/HND/BUS/181).

The remaining five suspects, all non-students originally from Ekiti State but residing in Abuja, were also taken into custody. They are Otitoju Christopher, Babatope Ayomide, Isaiah Babatunde, Shina Ayodeji, and Makinde Olalekan.

The suspects were intercepted at the main entrance of the polytechnic gate in a motorcade attempting to enter the campus. During the operation, law enforcement recovered two vehicles: a light green Mercedes Benz Saloon with Ekiti State registration “MUE – 598 – AE” and a black Toyota Lexus Salon registered from Ebonyi State “SKA – 78 – AE”.

Additionally, the authorities seized various illicit drugs, approximately N14,000 in cash, a beret cap featuring a suspected cult symbol, and an MP3 player from the suspects.

Confirming the arrests, the Kogi State Police Command’s Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Williams Aya, stated that the suspects are currently in custody undergoing interrogation.
