A Benin magistrate court yesterday sentenced three men to a combined jail term of 16 years for the theft of jewelleries and clothes.
While 27-year-old Simon Bedangzak was sentenced to six years in jail with hard labour for stealing jewelries and clothes by Chief Magistrate Patricia Igho-Braimoh, the duo of Mohamed Musa, 23 and Ibrahim Aliyu, 37, bagged five years each with hard labour for receiving stolen property.
The prosecutor, ASP Osayomwanbor Omoruyi, said the convicts committed the crime on November 9, 2019 at 2, Ewemade Street off PZ Road, Benin.
He said Bedangzak stole 11 trousers, nine shirts, two eye glasses, three pairs of shoes and a belt, valued at N480,000 belonging to one Mr Sunny Ewemade. He also stole six gold earrings, three gold pendants, a necklace, all valued at N3.2 million belonging to Mrs Osasu Ewemade.
