3 men jailed 14 years for attempted robbery

An Ekiti State High Court sitting in Ado Ekiti has sentenced three persons to 14 years imprisonment for conspiracy, 10 years for unlawful possession of firearms and 14 years for attempted robbery, without option of fine.

The convicts are Okon Joseph, 23,  Ebele Sunday 19, and Daniel Simon 20.  The jail terms are to run concurrently.

Justice John Adeyeye said: “It is important to protect members of the society from these felons. It will serve as deterrent and keep the accused from circulation for some time.”

According to the charge, the act was committed on or about November 26, 2018 at Emure- Ekiti highway when the accused persons were armed with  two locally  made guns and conspired with intention of committing armed robbery contrary to sections 6(b), 2 and 3(1) of the Robbery and Firearms (Special Provision Act) Cap R11, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004.

According to one of the local security outfit’s members who testified before the court, the suspects were arrested along Emure/Eporo road after they received distress call from the villagers along the axis.

The prosecutor, O. M. Ajumobi  called four witnesses while two locally made pistols, three pieces of live cartridges, Indian hemp wraps, tramadol tablets, statements of the accused, among others, were tendered  as exhibits.

The Defence through their counsel, Chris Omokhafe, called no witnesses.
