Three suspected members of an unlawful society, who allegedly conspired to rob a woman of her handbag at gunpoint, were on Wednesday remanded in Ikoyi Prisons in Lagos.

Chief Magistrate Peter Ojo gave the remand order at a Yaba Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos.

The accused, Femi Kazeem, 20; Segun Kazeem, 22; and Sodiq Ifekoya, 21, are facing a four-count charge, bordering on conspiracy, armed robbery, illegal possession of a pistol and cultism.

The prosecutor, ASP Roman Unuigbe, said the accused persons committed the offences on Aug. 28 at 4.45pm at Oyekunle Street in Ejigbo, near Lagos.

He alleged that the three men stopped one Miss Chidimma Ekeh on the road and robbed her of her handbag, containing N40,000 at gunpoint.

“My lord, they stopped her on her way home, pointed a gun at her head and collected her handbag.

“She had just withdrawn her rent money from the ATM. They stole it from her and attempted to speed off on a motorcycle.

“Ekeh shouted and alerted the policemen patrolling the area. The first accused had earlier made a statement confessing to the crime.

“Upon investigation, it was also discovered that they were the same men suspected to be members of the ‘Eiye’ cult that had been threatening that area,” Unuigbe said.

They, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The offences contravene sections 42, 297, 312 and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

The case has been adjourned until Oct. 24 for mention. (NAN)
