Three suspected motorcycle thieves yesterday escaped lynching by a mob in Kaduna.

Our correspondent gathered that army personnel that were passing by quickly intervened.

The suspects, who identified themselves as Umaru, Sani and Kenneth, were said to have stolen two motorcycles around Barau Dikko Specialist Hospital, Kaduna but ran out of luck when one of the owners of the bikes who was outside waiting for a friend raised alarm which attracted passers-by. 

When the suspects were caught, the mob reportedly attempted to set them ablaze after thoroughly beating them up, but for the intervention of the soldiers.

The suspects were eventually handed over to the officers of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in the area.

The spokesman of NSCDC Kaduna State Command, Orndiir Terzungwe, said the suspects were in their custody and were being investigated to determine the next action, while the two motorcycles have been recovered.
