Two members of the House of Representatives from Osun State, elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and another from Edo State, have defected to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
The Osun lawmakers, Taofeek Ajilesoro and Omirin Emmanuel Olusanya, alongside Marcus Onobun from Edo, officially announced their defections in separate letters addressed to the Speaker of the House, Tajudeen Abbas.
Reading the letters on the floor of the House on Wednesday, Speaker Abbas said the lawmakers cited irreconcilable divisions within the PDP as the reason for their decision to leave the party.
Daily Trust reports that the National Secretary of the APC, Senator Ajibola Bashiru, was present in the chamber to witness the defections.

Reacting to the development, the Minority Leader of the House, Kingsley Chinda, called on the Speaker to declare the seats of the defecting lawmakers vacant, in accordance with constitutional provisions.
The defections have further depleted the PDP’s numerical strength in the Green Chamber.
