The Kwara State Police Command has arrested three suspected members of a criminal syndicate linked to vandalism of government-installed solar light facilities and armed robbery activities along the Asa Dam/Dangote Road axis in Ilorin metropolis.

The arrest was carried out by operatives of the newly established Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU) following sustained surveillance and intelligence gathering around identified flashpoints within the state capital.

According to the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, the operation was triggered by complaints from residents over rising suspicious and criminal activities around the Asa Dam and Dangote Road corridor.

She said operatives of the VCRU, acting on credible intelligence, swiftly responded to suspicious movements around the Tanke area of Ilorin in the early hours of Tuesday, leading to the arrest of the suspects.

Preliminary investigations, according to the command, revealed that the suspects belong to a wider criminal network allegedly responsible for vandalism and robbery-related activities across parts of Ilorin metropolis.

Items recovered from the suspects included two locally made pistols, pliers and substances suspected to be hard drugs.

The Commissioner of Police, Ojo Adekimi, commended the proactive and intelligence-driven operations of the VCRU, describing the arrests as a reflection of the command’s sustained surveillance strategy across identified criminal flashpoints in the state.
