Three people who were trapped under the rubble of a three-story building that collapsed in the Life Camp area of Abuja have been rescued.

A witness, Muazu Bala, said the incident happened on Saturday around 6:12 pm, a few minutes after laborers had closed for the day. He said the building, which was under construction, collapsed and trapped three laborers. Two of them were rescued immediately.

Abuja Metro learned that the third person was rescued by a search and rescue team early Sunday morning, hours after the incident.

“It happened minutes after the laborers had closed and left. However, three people were trapped, but two of them were rescued immediately,” Bala said.

Bala noted that the rescue operation was carried out with the help of Julius Berger company, which provided a crane, along with officials from the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) and security operatives.

The FCT Police Command confirmed the collapse and stated that it rescued one person.

According to a statement by the command’s spokesperson, Josephine Adeh, the police received a distress call on August 2, 2025, at approximately 6:15 pm, regarding the collapse of a three-story building in the Life Camp area of Abuja.

Adeh said that upon receiving the report, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) for the Life Camp Division promptly mobilized a rescue team to the scene.

She said the team cordoned off the area and began a coordinated rescue operation in collaboration with NEMA, officials from the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) Development Control Department, Zeberced Construction Company, and Julius Berger Construction Company.

‘’At about 4 am on August 3, 2025, rescue teams successfully freed Aliyu Salisu, a 27-year-old male citizen of the Niger Republic.

He was the only victim who had remained trapped in the rubble for close to ten hours,’’ she said.

Adeh said the victim was immediately taken to Cedar Crest Hospital in Gudu for medical evaluation and is currently responding to treatment.

According to Adeh, the FCT Police Commissioner, CP Ajao Saka Adewale, was personally at the scene to oversee the rescue operations.

He commended the timely and professional response of NEMA and FCTA Development Control officials, as well as other service commanders and members of the community who were present.
