3 sentenced to cleaning courts on nuisance charges

A Kado Grade 1 Area Court, Abuja, on Thursday sentenced three men to cleaning of court premises for constituting public nuisance.

Theophilus Elkana, 18; Chigozie Benard, 20 and Timothy Unogu, 20, were arraigned for constituting public nuisance within Daki-Bui village, Jabi, Abuja.

The judge, Alhaji Ahmed Ado, handed down the sentence after the convicts pleaded guilty to a count charge brought against them, and begged for leniency.

Earlier, the prosecutor, Judith Obatomi, had told the court that a vigilante security man arrested and brought them to Daki-Bui Police Post, Abuja, on Aug. 24.

Obatomi said that on the same date at about 4.00 a.m., the convicts were loitering around Daki-Biu village without a genuine reason.

She said that police investigation revealed that the convicts had no means of livelihood, and also confessed to the crime.

The prosecutor said that the offence contravened the provisions of Section 198 of the Penal Code.
