The African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Katsina State has suffered a major setback following the defection of over 30 House of Assembly aspirants to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

The defectors, drawn from 18 local government areas of the state, formally joined the PDP during a reception held on Tuesday night, where they cited alleged injustice, poor leadership and lack of political opportunities within the ADC as reasons for their decision.

Speaking on behalf of the group, the leader of the ADC State Assembly aspirants, Ahmad Yusuf Jaguma, said the decision to leave the party was taken after extensive consultations among members who became dissatisfied with the party’s internal affairs.

“We deliberated deeply over our political future and came to the conclusion that the PDP remains the best platform for us. We have left what we considered a disorganised political journey and returned to our original political home,” he said.

He added that many of the aspirants initially joined the ADC with the expectation that the PDP’s political leader in the state and governorship candidate, Senator Yakubu Lado Danmarke, would also defect to the party adding that  when that failed to materialise, they reassessed their position and decided to return to the PDP.

While receiving the defectors, the Katsina State PDP Chairman,  Nuraddeen Amadi Kurfi, described their return as an indicator of the vote of confidence they have in the party’s leadership as well as the party’s commitment to justice, equity and fairness.

“You will enjoy full opportunities and justice in the PDP. This party is home to all, and we are confident that you will be proud of the decision you have taken,” he said.

Also speaking, the PDP governorship candidate, Senator Yakubu Lado Danmarke, assured the new members of equal treatment and opportunities within the party.
