Thirty people sustained injuries in two separate accidents that occurred at Awawa village, along the Abuja-Lokoja highway.

A witness said the first accident happened around 5.47am and involved an 18-seater commuter Hiace bus with registration number DKP 43 LG. Abuja Metro learnt that the bus was conveying 18 travellers who had attended a Holiness Revival World Wide event in Kwali and were on their way back to Edo State.

According to the witness, the bus crashed into a heap of sand at Awawa village.

He said the driver, who was unaware of the obstacle, skidded off the road, resulting in injuries to all the 18 travellers.

An official of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), who was part of the rescue team, confirmed the incident, stating that the 18 injured passengers were taken to the hospital for treatment.

The official added that a second accident, which involved two vehicles, left 12 people injured after they collided.

He said a Golf car with registration number ASH 34 AA, coming from the Gwagwalada end, collided with a Vento car with registration number RBC 925 CN, which was coming from the Lokoja axis and driving against traffic because of the ongoing road repairs on the highway.

He said the injured victims were rescued and taken to the hospital by officials of the Civil Defence Corps before the FRSC rescue team arrived.
