No fewer than 30 individuals were apprehended during the last environmental sanitation exercise in Ekiti State capital, Ado-Ekiti, for violating the monthly exercise.
The offenders were arraigned before a magistrates’ court in Ado-Ekiti and sentenced to one month community service, with an option of a fine.
The Commissioner for Environment and Natural Resources, Mrs Tosin Aluko-Ajisafe, reiterated the government’s commitment to a cleaner and healthier environment, urging all stakeholders to comply henceforth.
She said the responsibility of maintaining a clean environment is a collective one. “Let us all join hands to build a cleaner and more hygienic society in Ekiti.”

Meanwhile, the state government has issued a stern warning to religious institutions across the state to desist from harbouring individuals who violate environmental laws during the monthly sanitation exercise.
“There is a growing trend of some worship centres, particularly those situated in markets and commercial areas, providing cover for individuals seeking to evade the mandatory clean-up exercise.”
Aluko-Ajisafe noted that such practices would no longer be tolerated in the state.
