Three hundred sanitation offenders were arrested and prosecuted by a special court for violating sanitation laws in Kwara State during the monthly sanitation exercise held on Saturday.
They were arrested by the task force while monitoring the exercise in the state capital, which took place between 7 am and 10 am across the state.
The state government, however, commended residents for their compliance with the sanitation regulations.
A statement by the Press Secretary of the Ministry of Environment, Kamaldeen Aliagan, quoted the state Commissioner for Environment, Nafisat Musa-Buge, while answering questions from journalists at a checkpoint along the Ilorin/Ogbomoso express road shortly after the completion of the exercise.

He said, “Let me use this medium to express our delight at the increased level of compliance by the good people of Kwara State towards the successful sanitation exercise, particularly in the metropolis. I urge you all to sustain this momentum.”
The commissioner, who was represented by the Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Abubakar Ayinla, during the inspection, expressed disappointment that despite the government’s enlightenment and awareness campaigns, some people still flouted the sanitation laws.
