The lush greens of the IBB International Golf & Country Club will witness six days of intense competition as 300 golfers from across the country battle for top honours at the 2025 IBB Captain’s Cup, themed ‘Tiger bows out.’
The Captain’s Cup is a prestigious annual tournament marking the transition of leadership at the club.
Speaking at a press conference, the chairman of the planning committee, Ambassador Ben Okoyen, commended the outgoing captain for his exemplary leadership and contributions to golf development in Nigeria while revealing a grand prize of N5m to be won.
“This tournament is a hallmark of our club’s commitment to sports development. We are proud of the captain for his leadership and for fostering unity among golfers nationwide. The grand prize for this tournament is N5m,”Okoyen stated.
Outgoing captain, Alhaji Ibrahim Babayo, assured that this year’s edition would be a fitting conclusion to his tenure while assuring golfers and guests of a conducive event.
“We have meticulously planned an exceptional tournament to wrap up our leadership. It has been a dynamic year filled with innovations, some of which will be evident from the moment you step through the gates.
“We equally assure our golfers and guests of a conducive environment as we have put the recent issues behind us. It is normal for disagreements to occur. Also, to make this edition unique, we will dedicate the tournament’s proceeds to supporting the less privileged through scholarships,” he revealed.
The tournament will be officially teed off by the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede, alongside other distinguished personalities.
Events will commence on April 7 with the Caddies and Staff competition and conclude on April 12, 2025, with games featuring the club’s executive committee, board members, sponsors, and special guests.
