More than 3,000 students and alumni attended a career fair held recently by Nile University of Nigeria in Abuja to drive employability, the institution has said.

Speaking at the 3rd edition of the annual fair, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Dilli Dogo, said the fair was a link between students, graduates, and employers. 

He said: “We realize that when graduates and interns apply for jobs, they compete against thousands of applicants for the same position. To that effect, we are leveraging our relationships with partner organizations to bring these employers directly to our students and alumni.”

The Head of Student Services at the university, Dr Fausat Aleshinloye, said the career fair was the first to be organised since the university became a member of the Honoris United Universities. 

She said Nile is investing to reshape the delivery of education to match the needs of employers against the backdrop of the fourth industrial revolution while equipping African talents for a digital and technology driven future.

Martha Ugwunwa, a 500-level Computer Engineering student, said: “Listening to the advice and experiences of the panellists as well as interacting with the representatives of the different organizations present was an eye-opening experience that helped me know what to expect in the labour market”.

Also at the fair, organized in partnership with Career Services Centre, there were over 50 employers including Providus Bank, Access Bank, Bank of Industry, Huawei Technologies, HP Inc., for on-the-spot interviews of students and alumni for internship and job openings.
