Abutu Yaro, Zamfara State Police Commissioner, has said 317 students were abducted from Government Girls Secondary School, Jangebe, Talata Local Government Area of the State.

Armed men had invaded the school in the wee hours of the day, abducting the students.

When he and other top security operatives visited the community hours after the incident happened, Yaro said efforts were in place for the rescue of the innocent schoolgirls.

He also appealed to the residents not to take the laws into their hands but support the rescue efforts.

An angry mob had attacked journalists in the area.

Sadi Kawaye, a parent who resides at Kawaye village in Aknka Local Government Area of the state, had told Daily Trust that his daughters, Mansura and Sakina, were among those abducted.

“I’m on my to Jangebe now over this terrible situation. I was told they invaded the school around 1am,” he had told our reporter over the phone.

Earlier, SP Muhammad Shehu, Police Public Relations Officer in Zamfara, said he could not react to the incident.
