It has been revealed that 32, 721 farmers have applied for agricultural intervention across value chain through the Agro-processing Productivity Enhancement and Livelihood Support Project (APPEALS). Its developed data base  showed that out of this number, 11, 210 farmers met the criteria. However, only 2, 521 were said to have been randomly selected for screening.

This was disclosed by the coordinator of the APPEALS in Kano State, Malam Hassan Ibrahim during a screening exercise of 303 people with special needs who applied for the intervention.

He said the 303 people with special needs were from the 44 local government areas of the state.

“As you know, this is a collaborating project among Kano State, the Federal Government of Nigeria and the World Bank, to promote agro-business in the nation. It will interest you to know that we have engaged a consultant on the assessment of what farmers with special needs want. With the report, we will empower these farmers based on their needs and the value chain, which the APPEALS is promoting,’’ he stated.

Speaking on behalf of people with special needs, the Sarkin Kutaren Kano, Malam Isyaku Muhammed, said the agricultural intervention would keep a lot of people with special needs off the road.
