Ekiti State Governor, Engineer Segun Oni has said that his administration has established 38 new primary schools and distributed over 16,000 units of furniture for use by pupils and teachers in public primary schools in the state in the last one year.

Governor Oni made this known while receiving the Chairman and members of the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) in Ado-Ekiti.

He said his administration would establish more primary schools, particularly in rural areas in order to reduce the distance pupils have to trek to access primary education.

He directed the State UBEC board to carry out a survey within the next four weeks to determine communities in critical need of new primary schools in the state.

He restated the commitment of his administration to uplift the standard of education in the state by providing a conducive learning and teaching environment in schools and improving the conditions of service of teachers, noting that virtually all children of school age were in school in the state.

Earlier, the Chairman of UBEC, Professor Tunde Adeniran, commended the State Government and the State Universal Education Board (SUBEB) for the level of infrastructural development in primary schools in the state.

He urged the Ekiti State government to sensitise migrant farmers in the state and other settlers on the need to send their children to school.

The UBEC chairman urged the SUBEB to ensure an early completion of all ongoing projects so that next round of projects can commence.
