A 39-year-old man, Ayodele Mayowa, has been docked before an Ado-Ekiti magistrate court for being in possession of a locally made gun.
The police prosecutor, Sergeant Olubu Apata, informed the court that Apata committed the offence on April 22, 2020 in Ifaki-Ekiti.
Apata alleged that the police found in the possession of the defendant a cut-to-small size locally made single-barrel gun that was not licenced.
According to him, the police got information that the defendant, who claimed to be a member of the Oodu Peoples Congress, had a gun in his possession.
The prosecutor urged the court to adjourn the case to enable him study the file and assemble his witnesses.
The defendant pleaded not guilty. The lawyer to the defendant, Mr Gboyega Abiola, urged the court to grant his client bail and promised that he would not jump bail.
The magistrate, Mrs Kehinde Awosika, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N50,000, with one surety in like sum.
Awosika said the surety must be an OPC commandant and adjourned the case till June 3, 2020 for mention.
