The Shooting Stars Sports Club (3SC) has been thrown into mourning following the sudden death of newly appointed assistant coach, Akin Olowokere.

Olowokere, a former Sunshine Stars player and coach, reportedly slumped yesterday morning during a training session at the Dipo Dina Stadium, Ijebu-Ode, while the team was preparing for Matchday 2 of the ValueJet Cup 2025.

Eyewitnesses said he collapsed in the middle of the session and received immediate medical attention before being rushed to an undisclosed hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

Olowokere, a former Sunshine Stars player and respected figure in Nigerian football, was recently unveiled as part of Shooting Stars Sports Club’s new technical crew following the exit of the Gbenga Ogunbote-led coaching crew.

During his playing days at Sunshine Stars of Akure, he earned a reputation for hard work, discipline, and humility. After hanging up his boots, he moved into coaching, taking charge of Ekiti United and later serving as assistant coach under Edith Agoye at Sunshine Stars, before making his return to the “Oluyole Warriors” in a technical capacity.

Soft-spoken but deeply passionate about the game, Olowokere was widely admired for his commitment to developing players. He consistently went beyond his official duties, mentoring and inspiring younger talents both on and off the pitch.

As of press time, the club was yet to issue an official statement on the cause of Olowookere’s death.
