The company’s head of public affairs and communications Adeyanju Olomola disclosed this while speaking at the presentation of back-to-school kits to 520 students of Saint Theresa’s Nursery and Primary School Apapa, Lagos.
The “Back-to-School” kits contain school bags, sandals and socks, exercise books, and writing materials.
According to Olomola, NBC’s investment in education is borne out of its commitment to the sustainability of the communities it operates in. She added that the company will even be motivating more students to excel in the new school session, just as it will be willing to take off certain financial burden that a new session places on parents and guardians.
Olomola said before now, the company had commissioned two blocks of newly renovated and equipped classrooms in Panshekara Primary School, Challawa, Kano State and a block of classroom and sanitary facility at Demonstration Primary School, Kakuri, Kaduna State as part of its corporate social responsibility.
The NBC Public Affairs manager also noted that the company’s next focus in its partnership with the schools will be in the area of capacity building and that already it has engaged the services of Stephen Adams Social Reformation Foundation (SASRF) to implement the Teachers4Change Project.
She said under this platform, 24 teachers from the adopted schools will undergo training in basic teaching skills to further improve their capabilities towards enriching the learning experience and learning outcomes of the pupils.
In response, the executive chairman, Lagos State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Kadijat Gbolahan Dawodu, who was represented by Alhaja Otun thanked NBC for adopting the school. She also appealed to the company to support the teaching of vocational skills at the St. Theresa Nursery and Primary School as a way of ensuring support and securing a future for pupils who are unable to pursue academics to the university level.
