This was revealed by the Head of Media Unit of the Federal Government Staff Housing Loans Board, Mr Akinwale Adegbola in Abuja last week.
According to Adegbola, the board performed well between 2010 and 2013 when the federal government injected N10 billion into the scheme.
Adegbola called on civil servants to take advantage of the scheme because “our loans are with the least interest rate – three percent”.
The media officer who described the scheme as government’s social responsibility to its workers said currently, loan applications amount to N6.7 billion.
He called for additional funds allocation so more can benefit.
The revolving scheme covers all federal civil servants as well as military and paramilitary workers.
The loans are released based on applicant’s grade level; the least is N1 million for workers on Grade Level One. The highest is N15 million for workers in the cadre of permanent secretary.
The Federal Government Staff Housing Loans Board, headed by an executive secretary is under the office of the Head of Service of the Federation.
