Gunmen suspected to be kidnappers have abducted four persons from Anguwar Hausawa at Naharati,  Abaji Area Council, Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

Among those kidnapped were Abdullahi Umar, Abdulkarim Yusuf, Abubakar Umar and 13-year-old Abdulrahman Isah.

Daily Trust learnt that two among the kidnappers were killed when a combined team of police and members of the vigilante group came up against the criminals to foil the abduction.

A resident, who identified himself as Suleiman, said the gunmen attacked houses in the area around 1am yesterday.

He said some of the gunmen took strategic positions in the community while others invaded the  houses and abducted the three persons.

According to him, the police and some vigilante members were alerted as the gunmen  were taking the victims into the bush, adding that the police and some vigilante immediately engaged them in a shoot-out.

“They started shooting into the air to scare residents after they kidnapped the three people, which attracted the attention of the police and some vigilantes and a shoot-out ensued,” he said.

He said it was during the exchange of gunfire that two of the kidnappers were killed, though other kidnappers were able to escape with the three victims into the bush.

Our reporter, who visited the police station, saw the two corpses of the kidnappers at the police station, while some residents rushed to the scene to take video clips.

It was also gathered that SIM cards, charms and phones were found on two of the kidnappers.

The chairman of the council, Alhaji Abdulrahman Ajiya, confirmed the abduction of the three residents and killing of two kidnappers during a shoot-out by a combined team of the police and vigilante members.

When contacted, the spokesperson of the FCT police command, ASP Maryam Yusuf, confirmed the abduction and killing of two kidnappers via text message.
