The Ekiti State Police Command has announced the arrest of four persons it allegedly caught with dangerous weapons and a mini bus load of substance suspected to be Indian hemp.

The Police Public Relations Officer, Ekiti Command, Deputy Superintendent Caleb Ikechukwu, said the suspects were arrested on Saturday along Ise-Emure road by policemen on patrol.

Ikechukwu would not confirm whether the suspects were the armed robbers who attacked a first generation bank in Ise-Ekiti on Thursday, killed a police officer and carted away an unspecified amount of money.

The PPRO said, “I can’t confirm to you that four men have been arrested in connection with the Thursday bank robbery in Ise Ekiti. We are still investigating and trailing the perpetrators.

“But I can confirm to your that our men this morning (Saturday) arrested four men in a mini bus carrying a full load of Indian hemp in Ise Ekiti.

“Apart from the fact that they transported this dangerous weed, they were caught with dangerous weapons which were not expected to be carried about. They are currently being detained and investigation has begun to be able to ascertain the extent of their involvement in the illicit business, so that their syndicates can be fished out.”
