4 suspected robbers arrested for allegedly killing policeman

The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Zubairu Muazu, yesterday said that four suspected armed robbers, who were arrested at Igando, Lagos, on September 14, 2019, were responsible for the killing of a policeman at Amukoko, a Lagos suburb, early this year.

Muazu said that the suspects relocated from Amukoko to Igando after killing the policeman during an armed robbery operation. He added that the gang later regrouped and started carrying out series of attacks on residents at Igando and Ikotun, as well as attacking travellers on the LASU-Idimu road.

Muazu, who spoke through the Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, Bala Elkana, said that a team of detectives led by the Divisional Police Officer, Igando, Chief Superintendent Taiwo Kasumu, arrested the four “notorious” armed robbery suspects whose gang had been terrorising Igando/Egan residents.

“They arrived at the neighbourhood on September 14 on three motorcycles with intent to rob, but the attempt was foiled by the police. Oseni Waheed, 32, was arrested at the scene with one locally made pistol, while the rest escaped.

“Waheed led detectives to Aribisala Street in Egan, where three of his accomplices were arrested at about 2.30am of September 16, 2019.  The suspects had been on the wanted list of the State CID, Yaba, for series of robberies and murders, including the murder of a policeman serving in the Amukoko Division. Investigation is ongoing,” he added.
